CCNP SWITCH Labs + GNS3 Getting Started

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS JUST A PERSONAL EXPLORATION IN LEARNING WHAT NETWORK SWITCHING TECHNOLOGIES ARE AVAILABLE TO USE THROUGH GNS3. IT IS KNOWN THAT SOME THINGS DO NOT WORK. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FIRST HAND WITH EXPERIENCE.

Setup:

3725 Advance IP Services image

16 port EtherSwitch Module.

Objective:

Clear the configuration of a switch to prepare it for a new lab.

Steps:

  1. Connect to the switch console port and enter privileged EXEC mode
  2. Delete the VLAN Database file
  3. Erase the startup config from NVRAM
  4. Reload the device, but do not save the system configuration if prompted
  5. Display the existing configured VLANS.
  6. Shutdown interfaces and remove the VLANS.
  7. (optional) Configure transparent VTP mode.

Lab Run Test:

Connect to the switch console port  and enter privileged EXEC mode – Good!

Delete the VLAN Database file -Good!

Lab1-1

Erase the startup config from NVRAM – Good!

Reload the device, but do not save the system configuration if prompted –  Caution…..Because the device is not going through a physical shutdown the save config is not shown. Reloading the device in GNS3 will cause the server to lose it connection to the VM for the device! Use the reload button in GNS3!

Lab1-1-2

Display the existing configured VLANS.- Caution! The show vlan brief is not a known command for this image. You will have to use”show vlan-switch”

Lab1-2

Shutdown interfaces and remove the VLANS. Good!

Lab1-2 - 3Lab1-2 - 2

(optional) Configure transparent VTP mode.- Good!

Lab1-2 - 4
